About Calder Oak

Calder Oak is a traditional timber framing company based in Altham, Lancashire. We specialise in traditional green oak carpentry, hand crafted oak trusses, porches, oak framed summer houses, orangeries and pergolas. We also supply oak fireplace beams and roof purlin beams with our unique adze finish. We also create bespoke artwork for your garden, school, festival or parkland.
Our three core principles are craftsmanship, creativity and conservation.

​Working with wood has been a passion and a calling for many years for both Chris & Liam. They are both foremost traditional carpenters who specialise in Green Oak timber framing, trained in the French scribe technique, combining this skill with modern construction ideas they have been involved in some of the most exciting timber framing projects throughout the UK.
​
Chris is also a chainsaw artist and has been sculpting logs into creative art projects for the past several years this also involves working with local schools on sculpture projects and story telling areas, also working with community groups, friends of woodland groups and environmental charities, much of his art is now sited in parks private gardens and festivals throughout Lancashire.

Liam is both a joiner and traditional carpenter and is graded timber certificated. Liam now works in the education sector teaching Joinery / Carpentry at local colleges, Liam runs courses at Calder oak and also consults and labours with us when we need an extra pair of hands
Phil. Has now complete several years work with us and in his own right has become a competent and specialist carpenter, he enjoys creative carpentry and is great with problem solving when he's on site installation
